About Me

blackcloverdesigns
bio: Mike Stofiel is a furniture maker/ designer and architect/ artist. Black Clover Designs is his hybrid practice that touches a variety of expressive media. Since 2006 he has been focused on creating functional objects from wood and steel. His work investigates qualities of spatiality, interaction, tectonics, materiality and imagery, often contrasting industrial aesthetics with traditional elements. Environmental sustainability plays a generative role in the conceptual development, form and material expression of many of his works. A Kansas City, Missouri (USA) native, Mike travels extensively but makes his base camp KCMO, where he maintains a studio full time. He attended Kansas State University attaining a Bachelor of Architecture, studied abroad at the Czech Technical University and a Master of Fine Art from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with an emphasis in woodworking and furniture design. He greatly enjoys long walks, usually with four legged friends and prolonged exposure to chaotic stillness of dilapidated building, winter and lowland woods.
